Sorry I am so behind in my posts! We have been incredibly busy. I have a little lull in my schedule the next few days and so I hope to get caught back up.
I just realized I haven't shared any of the photos from our fun New Year's Eve. It is very dangerous to be out on the streets in the Philippines on New Year's Eve. When you mix alcohol, fireworks and firearms bad things can happen. Just this year in Santiago a young girl was killed when a neighbor shot a gun up into the arm and the bullet came down and struck her. So President Carlos has always had a curfew on New Year's Eve. Missionaries have to be locked down in their apartments by 6 pm. President does grant permission for missionaries to join together for the night depending on their location and apartment size. We heard from lots of missionaries throughout the mission that they played games, cooked good food and enjoyed the evening. Here in Cauayan we invited the missionaries who live in close proximity to come and spend the night at the mission home.
There was singing around the piano with Elder Samar playing--he is such a great pianist!
There were board games going on all over the house. Here a group was playing Outburst!
President invited several missionaries to cook for us. Here Elder Lacambra (left) was made fried banana flowers, he cut them up and dipped them into batter and fried them. We thought they tasted like artichoke hearts--they were very delicious. He serves them with a special sauce he makes that tastes sort of like Thousand Island dressing.
There was lots of delicious foods. President always makes his famous egg rolls on New Year's Eve.
Sister Kushi, from Pakistan made a delicious spicy chicken dish.
We sang, played games, laughted and there was lots of basketball games on the court at the church next door.
I think we ate for hours! It was all very delicious.
The sisters changed into P-Day clothes and got in a little basketball.

The Shaners, Lakers and Gottfredsons enjoyed visited with the missionaries and partaking of the good grub.
Elder Ilagan's folks sent several Chinese Lanterns. They were so cool- when we lit them we let go and they floated forever up in the sky.
We showed a moved and relaxed while we were waiting for the fireworks to begin!
All in all I think we had about 30 missionaries come and join us on New Year's. We had a blast but on New Year's Day all missionaries got up early and returned to their areas in time for our first District Meeting of the Year where all missionaries focused on setting goals and using their planner's more effectively. It was a great way to start off our new year.
