Even though we will see the Shaners in a few weeks, it was really hard to see them head for home. They were good friends before the mission--and came and served with all their might, mind and strength. They loved the people in Roxas where they served for almost 2 years. They loved sharing their talent for music with so many people throughout the mission with our Christmas Devotionals and our music workshops. Also, Sister Shaner taught over 30 people piano lessons and several are now playing in their own branches. Elder Shaner was the editor of our mission newsletter and for many months served as the Mission Secretary. They spent the last year handling the apartments and they did a fabulous job negotiating with landlords, purchasing and organizing the goods and furniture that go into the apartments and checking for cleanliness during periodic apartment checks. You name it--the Shaner's did it.
Some people ask what we do for P-day and we laugh and think about our P-evenings. There are no movie theaters or anything really to do in the evenings for couples. So we often gathered for game nights and the Shaners LOVE playing games.
It's really not possible to thank them properly--but hopefully they realize that their service and dedication was much appreciated by the missionaries, the members, the couples the investigators and by their Mission President and his companion!
