Some P-Days (preparation days are Mondays) are quiet around the mission home and office, but some are crazy. We often have elders or sisters coming in to see one of the great doctors here in Cauayan. Dr Uy was trained in the US and practiced in New Jersey for over 20 years. When his wife died he decided to return to the Philippines and practice here. He is such a wonderful, caring doctor. He spends lots of time with every patient which is great when you are the patient but trying when you are waiting to see him. We also have Dr. Oliver, a surgeon, who is really a great doctor and has helped with all kinds of problems from an appendectomy to in-grown toenails.
Other times companions come in to see President Carlos or to pick up equipment or supplies from the mission office. It seems like there's often a parade of missionaries on Mondays. President always loves to cook them breakfast or lunch depending on the time of day. He is probably the only Mission President that cooks for his missionaries. But anyone who knows him, knows that cooking is his passion. Cooking is one way President Carlos shows his love to people he cares about.
Elder Lacambra came in for an ultrasound on his kidney stones, but stopped for break fast before heading back tot his area.
Sister Saez and Sister Dhikao came to town for a little mission business.
Elder Rapsing called in the middle of a night saying he had a terrible pains in his stomach. He thought he had consumed some rotten buko juice. (coconut juice) But his companion had also drank it and wasn't feeling anything. By morning the pain had moved to his lower right side. We had him brought to the mission home where Dr. Uy and Dr. Oliver diagnosed him with appendicitis. Here was was examined again in the hospital emergency room.
They started an IV and observed him for 6 hours before doing the surgery.
The hospital had a beautiful new wing and Elder Rapsing was only the second person ever to get to stay in the executive suite and to have an operation performed in the new surgical center. Elder Andaya, his companion, was really a great support to him through his surgery and recovery. We're happy to report that Elder Rapsing is now back to work at full pace!
