Called to preside over the Philippines Cauayan Mission
While on vacation in Palm Springs, we received an email from the Missionary Department alerting us that a package was to be received the following day containing our mission assignment. This was somewhat a surprise since all along we were told the assignments are announced in March, and this was just the end of January. We were told not to broadcast our assignment until February 10th....
Between the receipt of this letter and February 10th, we were able to visit with the current Mission President, President Raul Villanueva, and his wife. It was a wonderful visit and help alleviate many of our concerns. We were given permission to speak to one of the couples serving there, who are from Orem, Utah. In following the direction from the Brethren, we did not call them until Februay 11th.
At 12:02 on February 10th, we sent an email to our close friends and family, informing them of our assignment.
The Church News Februay 13, 2020 edition contained a spread announcing all of the assignments for the newly called Mission Presidents for 2010.
Since then, we have received countless emails, phone calls, cards, and letters wishing us well. One of the best notes came from President and Sister Condie who are seving as Mission President and wife in Germany. We knew them when we lived in Kirkland, Washington. They provided some very wise counsel and assurances.
We are excited to serve in the Philippines Cauayan Mission. We feel this is the mission where we can make the most impact. We look forward to nurturing and strengthening the members, training the missionaries to teach with power, and providing an environment where the missionaries will experience success.
